About NLK

Nā Leo Kākoʻo was established by a group of fearless parents committed to ensuring their children be educated in the language of their kūpuna. Initially, the group found themselves fundraising for various huakaʻi, but that responsibility quickly grew. The need to organize was also fueled by the lack of equity in various areas of their children's public education such as materials production, facilities, transportation and systemic support. When Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Ānuenue moved to its current campus in school year 1995-1996, the Nā Leo Kākoʻo group continued to fight for the privileges we as parents enjoy today.

In looking forward to honoring the trailblazing parents of the early years and in making a commitment to support and expand the breadth of knowledge being shared in the classes each and every day, we should embrace the opportunity to elevate Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Ānuenue for the present and future. By doing so, we can all add in our little ways to support ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and to support the ʻike of our kūpuna through immersion education.
